Training & Education

Please contact us to schedule a class

Pioneer Forensics LLC is dedicated to providing practical training at an affordable cost. Our instructors are active law enforcement members and bring current practices and real world experiences to the classroom. Unlike some classes that lecture only on the theory of various methods, our field classes offer the right mix of lecture and hands on exercises to teach the student properly through demonstration. Students will learn proper methods by applying them to realistic settings. We are continually evaluating course content to ensure that the latest discoveries and best methods are being taught to the students. Upon completion of the course, each student will receive a certificate of attendance as well as a class photo.

Footwear Classes Offered:

Practical Aspects of Footwear Evidence

This three day course is offered to professional crime scene investigators, detectives, lab personnel, and students responsible for the proper collection of footwear evidence at scenes of crime. Instruction will emphasize the best practices for locating, collecting, and preserving footwear evidence so a proper footwear comparison can be made.

The class will emphasize the methods used to locate latent footwear impressions, prioritize their collection at crime scenes, and the proper photographic techniques necessary for a successful comparison. The course will also emphasize the physical collection methods utilized by field experts for both wet and dry origin footwear impressions. Current casting and lifting methods will be used by students in practical applications to determine suitability for each participant.

Students are required to bring their own digital SLR cameras and tripod. Students are encouraged to bring their own electro-static lifting devices to class. This will give the student the best possible acclimation to the equipment their departments have chosen to make available for documenting and collecting footwear impressions. A limited number of cameras and lifters will be made available for class by the instructors. For this reason, students requiring loaner equipment must request prior approval for use from instructors.

Each student is expected to participate in the hands on activities with the instructors in order to demonstrate the skills and methods discussed in class. All supplies will be provided by the instructors.

What the students say:

  • "This was the best class I've had in ten years!"
  • "Can be a very boring topic. You guys made it interesting not only with knowledge, but with humor."
  • "I am very interested in taking any and all other classes offered"
  • "For ten years I've been doing things wrong, not getting the evidence, and no one could tell me why until now!"

Students are required to bring their own digital SLR cameras and tripod to class. This will give the student the best possible practice with the equipment their departments have chosen to make available for documenting and collecting footwear impressions in snow.
